Nucarbn is a thoughtful redesign of the traditional notions of childcare products. Every design choice from making a stickable cloth based SensorLayer for your child's clothes to engineering the Module as a compact powerhouse of sensors, was made to help empower you as a parent.
The SensorLayer is the most important innovation of Nucarbn, this defines the future of childcare wearables. We wanted to challenge the status-quo by designing a seamless, sensor packed yet low power and child-friendly wearable. The SensorLayer blends with the cloth that it's sticked upon with the highest of child safe standards, utilizes advanced textile sensors yet is seamless in aesthetics and provides highest of power efficiency.
Placement of sensors, choice of materials and even the usability was influenced by the designated movement and perspiration zones of a child's body. Nucarbn was aesthetically and functionally designed so that it would not hinder the day-to-day activities of a child by assessing the impact of body impedance, are of whole body motion sensing and optimal weight distribution.
The best place to wear Nucarbn, is in the chest area, where it will be the least obtrusive and causes the least amount of motion impedance for your child's activities.
We use our high precision accelerometer and gyroscope in the whole body motion area, which is the best area to capture every nuance of the child's activity.
The weight distribution of the device is over a 10 times lower than the weight that can be accommodated by your child before it becomes a discomfort.
No wires, just a seamless encapsulation of soft circuits and sensors which eliminates almost all the bumps and seams. Parents can treat Nucarbn integrated fabric like any other piece of washable clothing - it can endure more than 200 wash cycles.

The most intimate system of Nucarbn, the Module. It's a powerhouse of sensors packed into a very small space. The challenge was to adopt a design choice of placing 2 of the 3 ECG electrodes outside of the device and co-existence of 3 most important sensors in a hybrid design.
The electrical heart rate sensor can be used to generate an ECG and is also used to understand the breathing pattern, which can be shared with a care provider. The optical heart rate sensor allows you to quickly check on your child's heart rate and blood oxygen level. A clinical grade temperature sensor, masked away in one of the ECG electrodes, enables you to understand the skin temperature of your child at anytime, anywhere.
Place the device under the pillow of your child on the charging base so that the device can simultaneously charge and analyze the sleeping patterns of your child. This was an intricate detail that was adopted because of the very loose clothing kids prefer to wear while sleeping.
While making the device water resistant to 50 meters, we also designed it to be child safe. Its important that we made you comfortable in making the child use the product and yes the occasionally inevitable spills and falls doesn't matter, because it'll still work.
ARM Cortex M4 processors provides a huge amount of capability in a small package. The most optimized and power efficient processor was more than a design choice, we wanted a design that can do computation to understand your child's health way longer than the others on a single charge.
Nucarbn combines its engineering and technology competency with the characteristic Jacob Jensen design language. It is a clear expression of the unique design style that the Danish designer Jacob Jensen and his son Timothy Jacob Jensen have developed, refined and evolved since 1958.
